It was a deadly day in Iraq Thursday. Upwards of 80 people were killed and more than 270 injured when militants unleashed a wave of violence across the country—car and suicide bombs, roadside explosions, and gunmen wreaked havoc before the upcoming holiday weekend celebrating the end of Ramadan. Iraqi authorities say they plan to tighten security in response to the threat of more attacks this weekend. “Our security forces have received intelligence that terrorist groups are planning and preparing for attacks during and after Eid,” said Abdul-Karim Tharib, head of the Baghdad security committee.
