Protests Erupt at Jay-Z’s Show

The Barclays Center in Brooklyn kicked off its first day with a sold-out performance from Brooklyn-native and superstar Jay-Z. But not everyone was thrilled. Activists protested Friday night against the new $1 billion Center, which will be used as the new home for the Brooklyn Nets. Concerned residents are worried that the proposed $4.9 billion in developments will ruin the neighborhood and support big corporations. A spokesman for the developer replied to the protesters, saying, “We are 100 percent committed to the affordable housing, jobs, and other benefits of Atlantic Yards and welcome those who were against them at the start to work with us to achieve them going forward.”
