Hostess has announced plans for a shut down that will cost 15,000 jobs immediately and 3,000 more over the next few months. But Reuters reports that bakers for the company would rather lose their jobs than take pay cuts. One employee said, “They’re just taking from us. I really can’t afford to not be working, but this is not worth it. I’d rather work somewhere else or draw unemployment.” Workers had complained of decreased wages and even cited a $10 per week charge that Hostess claimed was needed to boost company capital.
