Australia to Drill Antarctic Ice Core

If horror movies are right, this might not end well. Australian officials announced on Saturday plans to drill into a 2,000-year-old ice core in Antarctica to examine how the planet has evolved and what might happen next. The project, also backed by the United States, France, and Denmark, will spend eight weeks drilling through 400 meters of ice and will provide much more detailed information about past climate change than has previously been available. Just watch out for the Thing.
