It’s barely been a day, but the Al Jazeera takeover of Current TV isn’t getting the response executives probably hoped for. The acquisition plan was to replace Current TV in 40 million homes with Al Jazeera America. Now it appears many cable companies aren’t interested in the American version of the Qatar-based network. On Wednesday, Time Warner Cable said it would be terminating its contract with Current TV immediately. A source close to cable-TV deals explained to Reuters that “no one wanted to carry Current TV and they want to carry an Al Jazeera channel even less.” Other providers like Comcast, Dish, and DirecTV are already locked into deals to carry the low-rated station for a few more years.
