    Katie Couric to Interview Te’o

ESPN says Te'o maintains he was never involved in creating the dead girlfriend hoax. He said in the off-camera interview: "When they hear the facts they'll know. They'll know there is no way I could be a part of this." (AP Photo/ESPN Images, Ryan Jones) MANDATORY CREDIT

Katie Couric will have the first interview with star linebacker Manti Te’o, ABC announced Sunday. The interview will air Thursday on Katie, Couric’s new syndicated talk show. Among the many questions Couric is likely to have for Te’o, one may be just how early he revealed his hoax to the Notre Dame. According to an in-depth report in the South Bend Tribune, Te’o told the university about the scandal on Dec. 26, and a private investigation funded by the university launched early in January, and investigators searched “several sophisticated databases” for information on Lennay Kekua. The investigators, however, did not actually talk to Te’o or his family, and no one contacted Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, who Deadspin reported may be involved with the fake Twitter account.
