    Atari Files for Bankruptcy

    Another relic of the 1980s bites the dust. The U.S. wing of early video-game giant Atari filed for bankruptcy on Monday. But don’t fret if you are an Atari fan: this does not necessarily mean the end. Although Atari will be seeking buyers for its logo and games catalog—which includes more than 200 games, including the classic Pong—the company is still hoping to grow in mobile and digital gaming. The move is an effort to break away from its unprofitable French parent company. France’s Infogrames first acquired a stake in Atari in 2000 and then bought the company outright in 2008. But since then, the rise of PC and mobile-device games has damaged the videogame industry.
