Ballet Chief ‘Regaining Sight’

Doctors said that the Bolshoi Ballet’s artistic director will have sight in at least one eye when he recovers from an acid attack. An eyesight specialist said Sergei Filin “is regaining sight faster in one eye, but I think that we are going to even things out for both,” and added that the recovery process “will take a lot of time.” Filin suffered third-degree burns to his face when a masked man cornered him near his Moscow home and attacked him with sulfuric acid. Several dancers have since reported infighting at the Bolshoi, but choreographer Svetlana Adyrkhayeva said, “This is just theater. Normal people do not behave in this manner.”
