Though it only announced the decision this week, the New York Times Co. received a bid of more than $100 million for the Boston Globe last month, reports Keach Hagey of The Wall Street Journal. The bidding group includes former Boston Globe president Rick Daniels and the managing director of Boston Post Partners. The bid remains on the table. According to Hagey, the group has been in quiet talks with the Times Co. for the past year, though the Times had hoped that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. would make an offer for the Globe. But because News Corp. owns a television station in Boston, they are prohibited from owning a newspaper in the same market.
