USDA Set to Approve Horse-Slaughter Plant

Coming soon to your neighborhood grocery store: “made in the U.S.A.” horse meat! The New York Times is reporting that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is likely to give the go-ahead to the first horse-slaughtering plant in the U.S. since 2007. The plant, owned by Valley Meat Co. in Roswell, New Mexico, is looking to take advantage of the 2011 expiration of the horse-meat ban, despite growing unrest about horse meat found ground-beef products.
