    CO Killer Accidentally Released

File photo released by the Colorado Department of Corrections shows paroled inmate Evan Spencer Ebel, alleged gunman in the shooting death of Colorado corrections chief Tom Clements. Investigators are examining Ebel's alleged role in the killing, trying to determine if it was his plan or carried out at the direction of a prison gang.

Talk about a massive error. The man suspected of killing Colorado's corrections chief Tom Clements was accidentally released from prison four years early due to a clerical error. In 2008, while serving an eight-year sentence, Evan Ebel pleaded guilty to assaulting a guard and was sentenced to an additional four years. A court clerk mistakenly noted that the sentences would be served at the same time, rather than tacked on to the end of Ebel's current term. Ebel was killed in a shootout with police last week.
