At least 15 Taliban militants and one soldier were killed Thursday in clashes in northwest Pakistan as part of the country’s effort to regain control of the remote region, which has faced fierce resistance from the Taliban. Thursday’s clashes in the Tirah Valley in the Khyber region come 2 days after the Pakistani military said that 23 Pakistani soldiers and 110 militants had been killed in 4 days of fighting. The Pakistani military says the Taliban insurgents use the region as a base camp for their operations near the Afghan border.
