Federal prosecutors in Boston on Monday were preparing charges—possibly including the death penalty—against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving suspect in the Marathon bombing that killed three and wounded more than 170. On the case is U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz, who is known for her conviction record—and for coming down too hard on defendants. She is perhaps best known for the case against Aaron Swartz, the Reddit co-founder who killed himself last year after possibly facing years in prison on charges relating to allegedly stealing documents online. Tsarnaev, 19, is likely to be charged in federal court, possibly with using weapons of mass destruction to kill people. He reportedly is awake and answering questions, although he still cannot speak due to an injury to the throat.
