RNC Ad Shows Obama With Newtown Mom

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus gestures while speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, Monday, March 18, 2013. The RNC formally endorsed immigration reform on Monday and outlined plans for a $10 million outreach to minority groups _ gay voters among them _ as part of a strategy to make the GOP more "welcoming and inclusive" for voters who overwhelmingly supported Democrats in 2012. Just making sure we’re on the same page: Republicans are blocking gun reform, but now they are criticizing President Obama for not passing it? The Democratic National Committee is fuming over a Republican National Committee ad called “First 100 Days,” which shows Obama consoling the mother of a victim of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting—but criticizes him for not passing gun reform in the wake of the massacre. The RNC insisted that it used a clip from an ABC News package, with an RNC spokesman tweeting, “I don’t think we control ABC.” It’s just another instance of the high-stakes fight over gun reform, coming two days after New Hampshire Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte was confronted at a town-hall meeting by the daughter of the Sandy Hook Elementary School principal, who was killed in the shooting.
