In a case eerily reminiscent of Breaking Bad, a former Massachusetts state representative and a math and English tutor was charged Wednesday with trafficking crystal meth. Stephen Doran, a Democratic state representative from 1980 to 1994 who also chaired the Legislature’s Ethics Committee, has been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer, and his lawyer said he has been receiving chemotherapy for 11 months. Police said they arrested Doran as he exited Match Charter Middle School in Jamaica Plain, and he allegedly had a parcel containing 480 grams of crystal meth. Since he has been charged with having drugs in a school zone, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 12 years.
