Horror Flick ‘The Conjuring’ Nets $41.5M

The heat wave must have put movie-goers in the mood for some horror. The low-budget ($20 million total) The Conjuring brought in an impressive $41.5 million in the North American box office alone this weekend, followed by Despicable Me 2, which hauled in $25.1 million domestically on its third weekend—and beat out the new animated film Turbo, which came in third. Despicable Me 2 came out on top in the international box office, grossing a worldwide total so far of $584.6 million. The new films Red 2 and R.I.P.D. both had disappointing weekends, with Red 2 grossing just $18.5 million domestically and R.I.P.D. bringing in just $12.8 million in the U.S. Pacific Rim continued to disappoint, grossing just $16 million domestically for a two-week total of $68.2 million.
