Is Iran headed in a new direction? The country's new president, Hassan Rouhani, was inaugurated on Sunday when he publicly took the oath of office in front of Parliament on Sunday. The inauguration comes the day after he was confirmed by Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameini, in a more private ceremony. Rouhani, who will succeed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said in his speech that “the government of hope and prudence will have moderation as a basis of its management for running the country. The government will fight corruption and discrimination.” Rouhani was elected on promises to restore the Iranian economy and world standing.
