A section of boardwalk along the shore of Seaside Park, New Jersey, that was spared by Hurricane Sandy last October, was consumed in a fire on Thursday afternoon. The blaze spread down the boardwalk to other structures, including the FunTown Pier, the site of the roller coaster pushed into the ocean during Sandy, and north to Seaside Heights. Several firefighters and residents have been treated for smoke inhalation. The boardwalk where the fire originated, reportedly sparked at a frozen custard stand, was the only stretch that did not have to be rebuilt after the hurricane.
