‘Insidious 2’ Wins Box Office

The horror flick Insidious 2 won the weekend box office, bringing in a staggering $41.05 million in just 3,049 locations—an average of $13,463 per location. It’s the biggest September opening for a horror film by $10 million, and it comes on the heels of the summer’s surprise hit The Conjuring. Robert De Niro’s The Family also somehow exceeded expectations, with $14.5 million and landing in second place for the weekend. Riddick came in third, dropping to just $7 million; Lee Daniels’s The Butler came in fourth with $5.6 million—putting the film’s earnings over $100 million. And We’re the Millers continued to make money, earning $5.4 million and coming in fifth for the weekend.
