Elif Yavuz, a senior vaccines researcher for the Clinton Foundation, was killed in the mall attack in Nairobi. Yavuz and her husband, Ross Langdon, were gunned down when Islamist extremists stormed the Westgate mall and began shooting at shoppers. In a statement, the Clintons praised Yavuz for her tireless devotion to helping others. "Elif was brilliant, dedicated, and deeply admired by her colleagues, who will miss her terribly,” the statement added. Yavuz, who worked in Tanzania, was expecting her first child in two weeks and had traveled to Kenya for its superior medical care.
