Big Papi may have a bright political future ahead after he decides to quit baseball. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz finished third in the Boston mayoral election last week, with 560 write-in votes from fans still high on Ortiz's dazzling performance in the 2013 World Series. The write-ins put Ortiz third behind mayor-elect Martin Walsh and runner-up John Connolly, who were vying to fill the spot vacated by longtime mayor Thomas Menino. The mayoral vote wasn't the only vote of confidence Ortiz got this fall: he also won the World Series's MVP award, the Silver Slugger, and an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
