The biggest fans of the new mayor of New York may not live in his city. It turns out they live in the village Bill de Blasio’s grandfather left over a century ago: Sant’Agata de’ Goti, near Naples. The small Italian town is plastered with photos of de Blasio and America flags, and a local artist created a terra cotta figurine of the mayor-elect. Nearly 100 people waited into the early hours of the morning to hear de Blasio speak on election night, and roared with applause when he mentioned them. Perhaps unbeknownst to New Yorkers, de Blasio has visited the city several times, and practices Italian with his barber.
