Pope's Harley Goes for $280,000

The 1,585 cc Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide, donated to Pope Francis last year and signed by him on its tank, is displayed as part of Bonham's Les Grandes Marques du Monde vintage and classic cars sale at the Grand Palais in Paris, February 5, 2014. Signed "Francesco" on its tank, the motorcycle, to be auctioned for charity in Paris on February 6, has an unusual owner - Pope Francis. The Pope will sell his Harley Davidson to raise funds for Caritas Roma, a charity working on behalf of the church, auctioneer Bonhams said. A custom 2013 Dyna Super Glide donated to Pope Francis last year just sold at a Paris auction Thursday for over $280,000. The motorcycle was a gift to the pontiff from Willie Davidson, who is the grandson of the company's co-founder. While it is unknown whether Francis ever rode the motorcycle, his signature can be seen on its tank. All the money from the auction is being donated to the Caritas Roma charity which runs a soup kitchen and hostel for the homeless in Rome. Meanwhile, back in Rome, His Holiness met with a life-size statue of himself made from 1.5 tons of chocolate.
