Just days after the school’s men’s team took home the national championship, the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team defeated Notre Dame Tuesday night to win the NCAA championship. This was UConn’s fifth undefeated season, and they ended it by pounding Notre Dame, 79-58. It was also the second straight for UConn, and ninth overall. UConn won the men’s and women’s titles in 2004 as well, which no other Division I school has done. Standout sophomore and national player of the year Breanna Stewart had 21 points and nine rebounds for the champions.
