After being roundly criticized for its poor taste, Avril Lavigne has pulled the music video for her new song, “Hello Kitty.” The video, which had the Canadian singer dancing in a candy store, bedroom, and sushi restaurant with Asian dancers, was called an “embarrassment in any language” by Billboard, while Entertainment Weekly asked whether it was “offensive… or offensively obvious.” Lavigne is popular in Japan—her most recent album went platinum there, though it was her worst-selling record to date in North America. If this isn’t enough to damage Lavigne’s reputation, let us not forget that she is also married to Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.
