Pope Francis led a double canonization ceremony on Sunday, making both Pope John Paul II and John XXIII saints. It was the first time two popes were canonized at the same time. Around a million people poured into St. Peter's Square for the ceremony which was also attended by Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. “They were priests, bishops and popes of the 20th century,” said Pope Francis in his homily. “They lived through the tragic events of that century, but they were not overwhelmed by them. For them, God was more powerful; faith was more powerful.”
