The family of former football star Junior Seau will not be joining the proposed settlement between the NFL and thousands of former players who suffered concussions. Instead, the family says it will pursue its own wrongful death suit. The settlement “doesn’t include compensation to heirs or successors,” said their lawyer Steven Strauss, though the family was set to get $4 million under the agreement. His family also wants the NFL to commit more research to concussions. “They want to know what happened to their dad,” added Strauss. Seau committed suicide in 2012, and he is one of the most famous cases in the NFL concussion suits. His family’s decision to pull out could potentially put the settlement for thousands of other players in jeopardy.
