LAPD Sgt. Jim Parker, who answered the call last Thursday that led to an incident in which Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts says she was mistreated because of her race, says he responded to a routine call that escalated when the woman refused to identify herself. Los Angeles police have been criticized for detaining Watts, who is black, and her boyfriend, celebrity chef Brian James Lucas, who is white. Lucas claims that because the couple are interracial, police acted as though they were engaged in prostitution. But Parker told the Los Angeles Times the thought “never crossed” his mind. He said he approached the couple because they matched a 911 caller’s description of two people having sex in a car. Parker said Watts then “went into her tirade,” and he called the incident a “long, drawn-out drama.”
