NBC reportedly reached out to Jon Stewart for one of the most venerable jobs in American journalism: host of Meet the Press. Network news president Deborah Turness held negotiations with Stewart, three senior television sources told New York magazine. NBC was willing to offer Stewart “anything,” according to one of them. “They were ready to back the Brinks truck up.” Stewart ultimately refused the offer, and NBC chose Chuck Todd for the job. Stewart’s contract to host The Daily Show extends through next year.
