The Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has retaken the village of Chibok, where the group kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls seven months ago. The insurgent group is attempting to carve out a caliphate and has boosted its attack rate since rejecting the government’s ceasefire a month ago. “The insurgents arrived [in Chibok] at about 5 p.m. on Thursday, shooting sporadically, forcing people to flee into the bush,” a villager who fled told Reuters. A lawmaker also said that the group overwhelmed the soldiers who were in the village, forcing them to retreat to a nearby town.
