The three civil rights activists who were killed during voter registration drives in Mississippi 50 years ago were granted a posthumous Medal of Freedom by President Obama on Monday. Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner should be remembered for how they lived, rather than how they died, Obama said. Eighteen honorees received the award, including Meryl Streep, Tom Brokaw, and Stevie Wonder. "I love Meryl Streep. I love her. Her husband knows I love her," he joked about the actress. "Michelle knows I love her. There's nothing either of them can do about it."
