According to unnamed sources at Rolling Stone, the magazine’s founder and publisher Jann Wenner rejected the resignation of Sean Woods, who edited the blockbuster story on an alleged gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity that's proven to be less than reliable. Wenner denied the claim saying it was “not true,” though a second source confirmed it to The New York Observer. The source also attributed the backlash more to the way Rolling Stone responded and less to the inconsistencies in the story of "Jackie." Rolling Stone is currently assembling a “re-reporting project” that will sort through any discrepancies in the original story, written by Sabrina Rubin Erdely, and to give readers a factual account of what actually happened.
