Ebola Fighters Beat Putin for Time Honor

As the Ebola outbreak in West Africa turned into an epidemic, brave men and women from all over the world put their lives at risk to treat victims in Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Mali, Spain, Germany, and the United States. As a result, Time magazine has given its annual Person of the Year award to those fighting the epidemic. “For tireless acts of courage and mercy, for buying the world time to boost its defenses, for risking, for persisting, for sacrificing and saving, the Ebola fighters are Time’s 2014 Person of the Year,” wrote Editor Nancy Gibbs. This group of people beat out the bare-chested braggadocio of Vladimir Putin, who continued to leave a mark on the world stage with his slow-motion takeover of Ukraine.
