One of the United States’s most wanted, a Somali Islamist leader with a $3 million bounty on his head, has reportedly surrendered, according to government sources and local media. Zahariya Ismail Ahmed Hersi is one of seven al Shabaab leaders for whom the U.S. offered $33 million in 2012 for information leading to their capture. The group’s main leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane, was assassinated by a U.S. drone strike in September.
