Tim Mak reports the ACLU filed an emergency motion Tuesday evening to press the government to release the full CIA "torture report," which has yet to be published publicly. Last year, the Senate Intelligence Committee produced a report describing CIA detainee abuse and contending that enhanced interrogation techniques didn't produce valuable intelligence. The committee sent full, classified versions of the 6,900-page report to the executive branch last year. (In December, the committee released a heavily edited version of the report's executive summary to the public.) Now, the new Republican chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee wants the torture report back from the executive branch, fearing it will be susceptible to public release. The ACLU claims that returning the full report to the committee—which isn’t subject to the Freedom of Information Act—would prevent the court from ruling it should be released.
