The California Supreme Court on Monday struck down a law that prohibited convicted sex offenders from residing more than 2,000 feet from a school or park, saying it "infringed their liberty and privacy interests, however limited, while bearing no rational relationship to advancing the state’s legitimate goal of protecting children from sexual predators.” The court noted that such restrictions have increased homelessness and taken away parole services. The court did say there may be individual cases when a sex offender shall be forced to live 2,000 feet from a school.
