A team of Iranian special operatives have freed an Iranian diplomat who was kidnapped 19 months ago in Yemen. Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported the raid, quoting Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who said intelligence officers took on a “difficult and complicated operation” to rescue Nour Ahmad Nikbakht from the “hands of terrorists.” The operation took place “in a very special area in Yemen,” Amirabdollahian said. Nikbaht was taken from his car by armed men in Sanaa in July 2013. The incident was blamed on al Qaeda-linked militants.
