China has become the world’s third largest arms exporter, more than doubling its sales over the past four years. The country now supplies weapons to more than 35 countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Its exports also include armored vehicles, trainer aircraft, anti-ship missiles, and drones to various countries in South America and Africa, where “cash-strapped militaries” are looking for “medium-quality weapons systems at affordable prices,” said Philip Saunders, director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs at the U.S. National Defense University. The United States and Russia hold a combined 58 percent stake in the market and the top two spots.
