A train derailment in Uttar Pradesh, India, near the state capital of Lucknow, left at least 22 people dead and injured around 150 on Friday morning. Two coaches and the engine from the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed after the train conductor allegedly overshot the signal near the Bachrawan Railway Station, railway spokesman Anil Saxena said in Delhi. Authorities are investigating the accident while the railway has announced compensation for the victims’ next of kin. Rescue workers rushed to the scene to help, cutting open crushed compartments to free passengers.
