A woman who claims she dated Kentucky gubernatorial candidate James Comer in college said he was physically and mentally abusive to her for the two years they dated, The Courier-Journal reported Monday. Marilyn Thomas, who attended Western Kentucky University with Comer in the early 1990s, wrote a letter to the newspaper alleging he hit and threatened her. Comer “profusely denies” the allegations and vowed a “devastating lawsuit” against The Courier-Journal if the story was published, according to Comer’s lawyer, Dick Plymale. The news comes as the state’s agriculture commissioner begins the last two weeks of his campaign to be the Republican nominee for governor.
