U.S. airstrikes against terrorists in Syria “likely” killed two civilian children, according to a statement from the United States Central Command issued Thursday. The Department of Defense says it conducted a “thorough assessment, review, and validation process of the targeted buildings” prior to the Nov. 5-6 strike on the Khorasan Group and found “no indication that there were children at any of the targeted buildings.” Khorasan is an al Qaeda offshoot based in Syria that the Pentagon said was planning to strike targets in the U.S. and Europe. Earlier this month, The Daily Beast's Nancy Youssef reported that the Pentagon admitted for the first time to civilian casualities in the war against ISIS, which also saw the Khorasan Group targeted.
