FIFA Bans 11 Officials Over Corruption

FIFA said it has provisionally banned 11 individuals from carrying out "any football-related activities on a national and international level" after the U.S. indicted them for alleged corruption. In a statement, FIFA president Sepp Blatter—who is up for re-election for his fifth term on Friday—said that "such misconduct has no place in football and we will ensure that those who engage in it are put out of the game." The organization "will continue to work with the relevant authorities and we will work vigorously within FIFA in order to root out any misconduct, to regain your trust and ensure that football worldwide is free from wrongdoing," Blatter added.
