The U.S. formally submitted extradition requests for the seven FIFA officials arrested in Zurich on corruption charges in May, Swiss authorities said Thursday. The requests were made Wednesday, according to the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ). The seven FIFA officials are among 14 executives indicted in the probe of soccer’s governing body. Zurich police, acting on behalf of FOJ, are expected to provide a hearing to the seven officials over the requests. The officials and their lawyers then have 14 days to respond. The FOJ would then give a final decision that could be challenged in federal criminal court and the federal supreme court.
