Two local Iowa Republican committee members stepped down after residents complained when they decorated a float with three Confederate flags in an Independence Day parade. Owen and Linda Golay, who are both members of the Marion County GOP central committee, flew three of the controversial flags from the county GOP's parade float. The couple also displayed signs explaining the congressional acts that have recognized Confederate veterans to highlight the fact that they are veterans, too, according to Owen Golay. After some residents and Republican leaders criticized the move, the central committee denounced the use of the flags and asked for the couple's resignation.
