On Thursday, President Obama will become the first sitting president to visit a federal prison when he stops in El Reno, Oklahoma, to deliver a speech on criminal-justice reform. Obama is expected to voice his ideas on how to make this happen on Tuesday, when he speaks at the NAACP’s annual conference in Philadelphia. The president will address how nonviolent offenses have kept many people of color in prison for decades and is likely to “commute the sentences of dozens of nonviolent offenders,” according to The Washington Post.
