At least two men were killed and 35 others injured after Typhoon Nangka struck southern Japan on Friday, bringing with it heavy rains and damaging winds. Authorities advised nearly 350,000 people to evacuate the area as Nangka, which was downgraded to a tropical storm, brought more than 23 inches of rain since it first began to near on Thursday. A 71-year-old man was one of two people who drowned. He fell into a flooded ditch while trying to fix a window, according to NHK national television. Nangka brought with it 51 mph-winds and gusts of up to 75 mph an hour. Japan is expected to get 11 more inches of rain by Saturday morning as the storm heads north.
