A 9-year-old bat boy died Sunday after he was hit in the head with a bat at a National Baseball Congress World Series game in Kansas, according to his team. “With the permission of the family, and with much sorrow and a very broken heart, I regretfully inform everyone that Kaiser Carlile passed away earlier this evening,” the president of the Liberal Bee Jays, an amateur baseball team, announced in an online post. Carlile was wearing a helmet when he was hit during a game against the San Diego Waves on Saturday, but was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition before he died. Witnesses say he was retrieving a bat when the batter struck him while taking a practice swing.
