The lawyer for Adnan Syed, made famous by the Serial podcast, filed a motion in court on Monday saying cellphone evidence used to convict his client was unreliable. According to evidence presented at his first trial, incoming calls on Syed’s phone indicated that he may have been at the scene of crime where his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee was killed. Attorney C. Justin Brown said that in 1999, AT&T reported only outgoing calls could be used to track locations—not incoming calls. Brown contends that if this fact had been introduced in the original trial, the cellphone evidence would’ve been ruled inadmissable.
