Jeff Mizanskey was set free Tuesday after being initially sentenced to life without parole on a marijuana charge in 1996. The 62-year-old has spent almost a third of his life in jail for allegedly conspiring to sell six pounds of marijuana to a dealer who had connections to Mexican drug cartels. He had already had two drug convictions at the time and Missouri law dictated that he would have to serve a life sentence for a third. Mizanskey's release comes after lobbying efforts from his family and lawmakers coupled with a general shifting tide towards marijuana legalization in the United States.
