South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley discussed race relations in depth Wednesday at the National Press Club, saying that the Black Lives Matter movement has used a strategy of “yell and scream” to gain attention. She affirmed that “black lives do matter” and discussed a desire for the GOP to change the way it talks about race, with specific references to presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. “Republicans need to remember that the fabric of America came from these legal immigrants,” she said. “We should never say a negative word about that.” Haley said her state could be looked at as a model of improving racial relations after she led the charge to take down the Confederate flag outside its State Capitol after the Emanuel AME Church massacre.
